Human Rights: We Have to Fight?

This may come as a shock to you, but rights and freedoms don’t just come free. We actually have to stand up for them. Not everyone is going to respect our rights and freedoms, that’s just the way the world works.

For every good and just person, there is an equally unjust and awful human being waiting for their chance to infringe upon the rights that our founding fathers meant for us to have here in the United States. We as Americans have to be ready to stand up and fight for ourselves and speak out against injustices that are committed against us and everyone around us.

The truth is, most people would just take it lying down if they were told they couldn’t say something, or were fired for speaking their mind on social media, but there is a part of the Constitution clearly protects us from being persecuted for the words we speak. It’s called the first amendment, which give us the right to the freedom of speech. Read more: Village Voice Media | Wikipedia

The most common belief is that you have to have money to defend yourself against a big corporation that has disrespected you and your rights. This is a blatant lie. There are organizations out there that are willing and happy to help. And, most of the time even without the backing of a big corporate lawyer and a vastly funded organization, a company that has wronged you would no doubt settle out of court for fear of a further investigation.

Think about it, if they’re doing this to you they’re probably doing this to other people as well and don’t want to be exposed for the retched and horrid acts that they’ve committed. They will probably offer to settle out of court if you threaten criminal charges against you and will no doubt make things right out of fear. Read more: Jim | Twitter

But, more on the organizations. Not all of them are focused solely on the United States and the rights of our citizens, but most are willing to help simply to better the condition of the human race. Let’s look at a couple of these organizations and discuss why it’s so important to stand up for your rights.

Center For Constitutional Rights

Look, the constitution is the backbone of America. It’s the reason so many people look this country as a beacon of hope and prosperity. So, of course there is an organization dedicated to protecting our right’s listed within the Constitution. The Center For Constitutional Rights was founded in 1966. This is a non-profit legal advocacy center based in New York that strives to uphold the rights expressed within the Constitution. If you’ve been infringed upon and you believe you should have been protected by the constitution, there is no doubt that this organization would be happy to help you.

Remember that you’re not alone in this fight. If they have done something to you there are no doubt others out there ready to speak out. You have to be brave enough to stand up for yourself.

Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund

Now, the Lacey and Larkin Frontera fund actually comes with an interesting story. Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin were two small town reporters with the dream of starting their own paper. They achieved this dream and began speaking the truth. The truth is what lead to their problems with Sheriff Jim Arpaio. Larkin and Lacey found that the sheriff was under scrutiny and decided to go public with their findings. They discovered that grand jury proceedings requested authors’ notes on articles covering the sheriff.

The good Sheriff being a respected law man then took it upon himself to have the pair arrested. They were taken in the middle of the night and wrongly imprisoned for their words.

Thankfully, this is not where their story ends. After their release, they sued the county and won. The settlement of $3.75 million was used to start the Larcey and Larkin Frontera Fund. If that wasn’t a smack in the face to those looking to disrespect the rights we hold dear, I don’t know what is. The foundation helps to protect civil, human, and migrant rights throughout Arizona including the border.
